Veteran business financier R. Patrick Weston of Greenville has joined the Board of Directors of Business Development Corporation (BDC).

Weston is a Managing Partner of Route 2 Capital Partners (R2CP), a private investment firm providing mezzanine and equity financing to lower middle market operating companies. He co-founded R2CP in 2017 after 17 years with Azalea Capital.

Weston has served on the board of a number of privately owned businesses and currently is on the Board of Directors of Carolina Motor Club (AAA Carolinas), where he serves as Chair of the Investment Committee.

The University of South Carolina graduate also has an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

“Patrick Weston brings to the Board a deep understanding of the complexities and possibilities of mezzanine investing and other innovative approaches to financing for entrepreneurs, who have great ideas but often lack the capital to put them into action. We are looking forward to his input and insight as a BDC Board member,” said BDC President and CEO Peter G. Shand.

“There are so many ways to help small businesses succeed. Patrick Weston brings a long record of doing that across the Southeast. He’s a great addition and adds a different perspective to our Board,” said Edwin O. Lesley, Chairman of BDC.

BDC is a non-bank commercial lending company specializing in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 7(a) loan guaranty program and the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI).

Created by the South Carolina Legislature in 1958 to help foster economic development and job creation, the BDC Board includes many of the state’s leading community and commercial bankers and the organization now is certified to lend across seven Southeastern states.
