Job Overview
The Commercial Loan Officer Assistant will support Commercial Loan Officers by completing a variety of administrative support functions to contribute to efficient and effective processing of loan applications including SBA loan applications.
Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison between borrower, lender, underwriting, and Loan Closing Departments in coordinating receipt and review of required documents.
- Review application checklists, forms, and disclosures for accuracy and completeness.
- Gather all necessary documentation required to make a complete file, including, but not limited to: application documents, tax returns, financial statements, income verifications, IRS tax return transcripts, credit reports, appraisals, insurance certifications, and construction and purchase contracts.
- Order and perform an initial review of appraisals/environmental reports to ensure the property conforms to SBA appraisal/environmental guidelines.
- Communicate with loan officers and borrowers about items needed to reach a loan decision; follow up on all file documentation to meet required commitment deadlines.
- Oversee the loan documentation pipeline by updating the lender and borrower on loan status, ensuring timely completion of the loan process, and follow up on missing items.
- Review loan file information to ensure accuracy and adherence to all SBA regulations per SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), prior to loan submission.
- Input borrower and loan request information into the loan processing data system.
- Assist with Commercial Lending communications, including responding to incoming telephone calls, email, and voice mail.
- Provide borrowers with timely and periodic status updates of the loan application.
- Prepare various monthly activity monitoring reports for loan officers.
- Maintain a high level of cooperation and rapport with all associates in order to ensure accurate and efficient operations and service.
- Provide support and assistance, and other related duties as assigned, in support of the daily functions of the Commercial Lending team.
- Ensure that confidential information is safeguarded.
Qualifications
- Candidate is not required to have direct SBA loan processing experience; training is available.
- However, a minimum of three years loan processing or loan assistant experience in a commercial banking environment preferred.
- Alternatively, prior experience as a paralegal for a loan transaction focused law firm.
- Proven ability to work productively and efficiently without direct supervision.
- Strong detail orientation and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone and email skills.
- Excellent borrower service skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions.
- Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Uphold professional expectations including core values, borrower service, and dress code.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Physical Requirements
- May be required to push, pull, lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
