Hobson Busby, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer at South State Bank in Columbia, has joined the Board of Directors of Business Development Corporation (BDC).

Busby joined South State Bank in 2003 and has more than 40 years’ experience as a credit officer, loan administrator, consumer and commercial lender, and branch manager.

He has been a member of the BDC Loan Committee and is a graduate of Newberry College and the South Carolina Bankers School.

“Hobson Busby is a longtime colleague with more than four decades of banking experience. He did a great job as a valued long-term member of our loan committee, and I am certain he will bring the same energy and expertise to the BDC Board. I’m glad he agreed to join us,” said Edwin O. Lesley, Chairman of BDC.

“Our Board will benefit greatly from Hobson Busby’s extensive experience in commercial lending and credit administration,” said BDC President and CEO Peter Shand.

BDC is a non-bank commercial lending company specializing in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 7(a) loan guaranty program and the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI).

Created by the South Carolina Legislature in 1958 to help foster economic development and job creation, the BDC Board includes many of the state’s leading community and commercial bankers and the organization now is certified to lend across seven Southeastern states.
