Chantal Fryer, Director of Business Services at the South Carolina Department of Commerce, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Certified Development Corporation (CDC) of South Carolina.
Fryer has more than 25 years of state government experience and currently directs the Commerce team responsible for support to small and large enterprises for their ongoing success and sustainability in the Palmetto State. The Business Services hub provides assistance in the areas of small business, innovation, recycling, supplier connectivity, emergency management, international trade and export as well as resources to increase existing industry competitiveness.
She also has served as director of Recycling Market Development at Commerce, helping to grow the state’s recycling business to a $13 billion industry. Prior to joining the state’s economic development agency 15 years ago, Fryer focused on alternative fuels and energy efficiency at the South Carolina Energy Office, as well as held roles with the Executive Office and Cabinet Affairs program in the Governor’s Office and at the Executive Director’s office of the former S.C. Budget and Control Board.
The Lexington resident holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of South Carolina as well as Certified Public Manager and Certified Recycling Professional credentials.

BDC is a non-bank commercial lending company that specializes in U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan programs and the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). The company is headquartered in Columbia, SC, and primarily serves the state of South Carolina.
