LaTorrie Geer, Chief Executive Officer of CommunityWorks, has joined the Board of Directors of Business Development Corporation (BDC).
Geer joined CommunityWorks in 2012 as Program Manager for the Greenville-based nonprofit financial institution. CommunityWorks is a small business and affordable housing lender that provides capital, business and financial coaching, and support programs across the Palmetto State.
Geer had been the organization’s Director of Operations and then Chief Operating Officer, the latter for four years, before her recent promotion to CEO. Her program and operational leadership, compliance expertise, relationship development skills, and strategic planning skills have helped guide CommunityWorks’ rapid growth into a $30 million institution.
The Anderson resident and University of South Carolina graduate was Executive Vice President and Director of Operations at SENIOR Solutions, a nonprofit focused on serving seniors, before joining CommunityWorks.
Geer is certified as an Economic Development Finance Professional through the National Development Council. She also is a graduate of Leadership Anderson, Leadership Oconee, and Furman University’s Women’s Leadership Institute and Furman’s Riley Institute Diversity Leadership Initiative.
Geer additionally serves on the boards of Greater Good Greenville, Generation4, Self Help Credit Union, SC Capital Alliance, and the SC Fair Lending Alliance Steering Committee.
“I am excited to join the BDC Board. The shared mission of our organizations will help us to be great partners in providing capital to small businesses in South Carolina,” said Geer.
“LaTorrie’s dedication to community development make her a valuable addition to our board. We look forward to learning from her insight and experience,” said Peter G. Shand, BDC President and CEO.
