Charlie Banks, co-founder and Managing Director of VentureSouth, has joined the Board of Directors of Business Development Corporation (BDC).

South Carolina-based VentureSouth is a leading angel investor firm with a membership of nearly 600 investors. VentureSouth invests $250,000 to $1,000,000 each in early-stage companies seeking capital to launch or scale a market-ready product or service. The firm currently has more than $80 million in deployed capital invested in more than 110 companies.

Banks also serves as Executive Director at Venture Carolina, a nonprofit that supports the state’s startup community through leading-edge educational offerings to current and prospective investors to further help close the funding gap in the Palmetto State.

Banks is a graduate of Newberry College and has a long record as a successful serial entrepreneur with extensive experience starting and scaling companies across a myriad of industries.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with investors and multiple financing channels, and to witness the creation of promising enterprises by impressively inventive and pragmatic new business owners. I’m excited to now help BDC match the right entrepreneurs with SBA borrowing opportunities,” said Banks.

“Angel investing is a robust yet still-emerging business and one that has tremendous potential for helping South Carolinians with great ideas, products and services to bring to the world. We’re delighted that Charlie Banks has joined the BDC board. His experience and skills will be invaluable as we move forward,” said Peter G. Shand, BDC President and CEO.
