Sharon W. Bryant, Regional Executive Vice President of First Citizens Bank, has joined the Board of Directors of Business Development Corporation (BDC).
Bryant has been in her current role since 2014 and is responsible for retail and business banking in the South Carolina metro markets and retail, business banking and commercial banking in the state's community markets. She joined First Citizens in 1999 as Executive Vice President and Director of Human Resources. While at First Citizens, she also served as director of the bank's Wealth Advisory Group, a division with more than $2.7 billion in assets under management.
BDC is a non-bank commercial lending company specializing in the U.S. Small Business Administration's 7(a) loan guaranty program and the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). Created by the South Carolina Legislature in 1958 to help foster economic development and job creation, the BDC's board includes many of the state's leading community and commercial bankers.
"In my more than 30 years of banking, I've gained an appreciation for the need to provide small businesses the ability to obtain the kind of financing that works for their individual situations. That's how they grow and how our communities grow. First Citizens is both a shareholder and a member bank of BDC, and I look forward to being able to contribute to the best of my ability," Bryant said.
"Mrs. Bryant is an accomplished, experienced banker with a wide range of experiences in financial services. She's a valuable addition to the board, bringing both her own unique perspectives and the respect, resources and influence that First Citizens carries as a major regional and community presence," said Edwin O. Lesley, President and CEO of BDC.
