H. Richard Sturm, Executive Vice President and Carolinas Bank President for Ameris Bank, has joined the Board of Directors of Business Development Corporation (BDC).
Sturm has 35 years of community banking experience, launching his career as a commercial lender with C&S/Bank of America in 1988 after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a double major in finance and management.
He was Regional Executive with SCBT in Hilton Head when he joined Ameris in 2006 upon the Atlanta-based company’s entry into the South Carolina market, and for the past 17 years has been responsible for its banking operations in North and South Carolina. He also currently serves as First Vice-Chair of the South Carolina Bankers Association and is on the executive leadership team for the American Heart Association in the Lowcountry.
“BDC provides a critical link to small businesses seeking capital to fuel their growth. I appreciate being asked to bring my experience in that regard as we assist job-creating entrepreneurs to thrive and grow,” said Sturm, now a resident of Edisto Island.
“Richard Sturm is an accomplished banker known for his leadership in building strong commercial lending teams wherever he’s worked. We’re delighted to have him serving on our board,” said Peter G. Shand, BDC President and CEO.
